Primordial tracks, marks made by plants and animals on rock formations: this is the inspiration and the image evoked by Fossil, a collection designed by Polish designer Kasia Zareba for Ceramiche Refin’s DTStudio creative research laboratory. A succession of fine, irregular, trembling lines drawn by hand, a sequence of marks that interrupt one another and overlap just like the signs of time in prehistoric and archaeological excavations. Unique, unrepeatable signs recalling the most natural aspects of life, forms that everyone can interpret in their own way, according to their own imagination. Five graphic patterns are proposed, generated by the motion of signs heading off in different directions to create intriguing optical illusions and full and empty volumes. Tiles may be laid randomly, mixing the graphics to add an element of customisation and make every surface unique. The optical effect is surprising, like a carpet of tiny fibres.
