The French firm\u00a0Hamonic + Masson & Associ\u00e9s<\/a>\u00a0realized th project of student dwellings ‘Golden Cube’\u00a0<\/strong>on the \u2018A4 Est\u2019 sector of Le Trap\u00e8ze in\u00a0Boulogne-Billancourt, Paris.
\nFundamental principles guided the programmation and construction of A4 Est, such as the coherence and harmony of buildings, limitation of vis-\u00e0-vis, construction at intermediate height to maintain a human scale and a blending of exterior and interior limits by offering loggias and exterior space.
\nIn the project of Hamonic + Masson & Associ\u00e9s this principles are also visible, but the\u00a08-storey golden cube\u00a0with its 156 rooms is crossed by a secret garden,\u00a0as the project coordinators,\u00a0Loci Anima<\/a>, were keen to reintroduce some biodiversity onto the island.<\/p>\n

The architects paid\u00a0attention on exterior spaces: every apartment has its own exterior space.\u00a0A 1.5-metre recess allowed us to include loggias along almost the entire fa\u00e7ade. The building\u2019s outline is blurred by the use of filters,\u00a0like the perforated sheets of steel that allow to give the impression of a solid cube.
\nThe strongest challenge for the architects was to deal with a dense urban context in which the quality of the environment needs to be maintained. <\/strong>Furthermore the client\u00a0demanded for a compromise between cost and effectiveness.\u00a0The architectural quality of the spaces emerges despite\u00a0compact context. The building represents itself a landmark with a powerful character.<\/p>\n
