LAN Architecture<\/a>\u00a0has just completed a new town hall in Saint-Jacques de la Lande, near the capital of Britanny, Rennes. It caps the creation of the Saint-Jacques\u00a0de\u00a0la\u00a0Lande\u2019s new city center. This project is the logical extension\u00a0and contemporary version of the long\u00a0architectural history of city halls.\u00a0With its\u00a0two squares, it is readily identifiable\u00a0from the\u00a0route.\u00a0The fa\u00e7ades are defined by their two\u00a0layers, each one answering different\u00a0needs and complementing the other\u00a0perfectly.\u00a0The first is a light and delicate skin\u00a0of steel, which creates a sensation\u00a0of visual\u00a0penetration. This layer\u00a0provides protection from the sun and\u00a0it covers the second, \u201cthicker\u201d fa\u00e7ade,\u00a0which meets the building\u2019s thermal\u00a0performance needs.Within this structure, everything is\u00a0about overlap, reading a distance,\u00a0transparency, counter-light, and\u00a0reflection. Everything is about light\u00a0and character.<\/p>\n

The architectural project is based on an\u00a0image of unity, reassurance, and clarity\u00a0that fosters a strong sense of identity\u00a0without falling into the clich\u00e9 of\u00a0emblematic representations of power.\u00a0The building acts as a catalyst for social\u00a0interactions. The architecture of each\u00a0side of the building creates a specific\u00a0relationship with each bordering street. The full and empty spaces surrounding the central hall make it natural and intuitive for users to move from one office to another. The hall’s double height seeks to connect the core of the building with the secondary entrance from the upper square. This connection is even more important because it facilitates the access point without confusing them.<\/p>\n
