In collaboration with the Alvar Aalto Museum, the Vitra Design Museum dedicates an important critical and retrospective exhibition to\u00a0the Finnish architect. With the aim to produce and promote his furniture designs, in 1935,Aalto Artek was founded. It was a furniture company and at the same time a gallery. Thanks to the attention that Aalto devoted to the details of its architecture, Artek soon became a prestigious address for the modernist avant-garde culture.
\nThe exhibition provides an overview of \u00a0life and work of Aalto, including architectural models, drawings, furniture, lights and glass, and it\u00a0brings together works by other artists.
\nCombining drawings of known buildings with lesser known projects, the exhibition explores the intense activity of the architect from 1920 to 1970, providing a reading of the organic architectural language of Aalto through a close dialogue with other artists of his time, such as L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Moholy Nagy, Jean Arp, Alexander Calder or Fernand L\u00e9ger.
\nThe works of other artists alongside Aalto’s drawings and projects illustrate the importance of a prominent figure in the art and architecture of the international avant-garde from 1920 onwards.<\/p>\n
