The interior decoration of the interiors of the Papi du Papi by Paszkowski Design is a project in the round, which is above all based on architectural solutions rather than on important design pieces. In addition to the definition of the spaces, the studied choice of materials and the realization of the decors, the project also comprises an accurate study of the on-board illumination, which is aimed at exalting the contrasts between lights and shades that have already been created by the use of materials and important design elements, as the stairs connecting the bridges and the headboard of the bed in the master cabin. On the request of the owner, the architects have paid great attention to the entertainment systems, building television screens and speakers for listening to music into the furniture.
The decoration is based on a combination of two types of wood, which are used alternatively for floors, walls and furniture: Brazilian flamed rosewood and striped oak, more rigorous and modern, chosen to create an atmosphere where the South American culture and the European one form a balanced union. As in the choice of wood species, also the selection of stone types is based on a concept of continuity, with a combination of only two styles, Jerusalem stone for the wall nearest the bow in the salon and the bathrooms, and travertine, used as flooring material combined with and in contrast with the rosewood. A third material, leather, is used as complement to wood and stone, while the ceilings are covered with a special fabric made from wooden sticks woven together by cotton threads, arranged in a checkerboard pattern with two different shades, a darker one in the master suite and the living area, and a slightly lighter one in the guest cabins.
The photographs and paintings of the ship owner, all of them memories from travels and which are hung both in the cabins and in the accessory areas, add a discreet personal touch that merges elegantly with the rest of the decoration.
The layout of this 50 metres long vessel with three bridges built by the ISA – International Shipyards Ancona – in steel with structure in aluminium, features a salon, dining room, kitchen, storeroom and, in the bow area, the master apartment on the main deck and five guest cabins on the lower deck, a second salon, the steering gear, the captain’s cabin and a day-toilet on the upper deck. The layout of the boat is completed by a sundeck with a large area for sunbathing, a bar, a Jacuzzi and the beach area to the stern, an area at water level faced with teak, featuring a bar area with a sofa. The living and dining rooms on the main deck consist of a single room, delimited on the bow side by a stone wall. The conversation area comprises an L-shaped sofa by Armani Casa, two armchairs and a low table. The floor is in Brazilian rosewood. Four speakers are built into the uprights in striped oak between the windows, arranged so as to obtain the right contrast between light and dark shades, and to ensure that functional aspects do not prevail on aesthetic ones. A large rectangular dining table for 12 persons with chairs designed by Matteo Grassi stands on a travertine floor. The illumination is by Flos. The wall nearest the bow, which is the dominant feature of this room, separates the bedroom area from the living room. It is faced in split Jerusalem stone, arranged in rectangular and square modules that form a bas-relief, and performs a double role: as decoration on the one side, as it adds depth to this large room thanks to the chiaroscuro effects of the bas-relief, and as a functional element on the other, as it serves as efficient separation between the master suite and the living room.
Master suite: The bow area of the main bridge is occupied by the master suite, including a salon with large TV screen and study. This is the part of the boat where the definition of the spaces has been subject to the most attentive study; the rooms reveal themselves one after their other, almost as if to only unveil their characteristics gradually, step by step. Panel curtains in linen, the same material used for the windows, separate these two areas from the bedroom proper, consisting of bed, dressing room and bathroom. The illumination is by Artemide. The intimacy of the area dedicated to repose is accentuated by a kind of frame in striped oak which surrounds the bed, while the backlit headboard is in rosewood like the bedside tables and the floor. The designers have paid considerable attention to the bathroom, which occupies the whole area from bulwark to bulwark on the bow side of the bedroom and the study, and is so to speak divided in five “blocks”. None of them are visible from the bedroom area, except the first, which features a large shower and bathtub in Jerusalem stone, protected by a wall in transparent glass.
