Going by the name of Meltin’ Pot and thinking of opening a showroom in New York in the dark years of the Bush administration has made me reanalyze the American culture. The dream in stars and stripes has turned into an imperialistic nightmare. The flag which has for so long been considered a symbol of freedom is today all too often looked upon with resentment .The revival of that ideal is something which concerns us all. America is made of people who share an attitude of openness: it is the land of freedom. The name Meltin’ Pot is borrowed from one of the great utopias of Kennedy, and that is the America we look to. To de-structure the flag, to give life to a space is a attempt of re-appropriation, it is a declaration of love. To quote JFK: “we're all Americans”.
