Il luogo dove sorge l‘hotel è un campo di grano collocato a 3 km dal centro della città di Tudela e a 4 km dal parco naturale di Bardenas Reales de Navarra. L‘hotel ripropone la forma delle tipiche costruzioni dell‘area di Ribera, che si sviluppano intorno a una corte centrale al fine di offrire protezione contro i forti venti che spazzano la zona. La corte centrale generata da una serie di costruzioni ortogonali si colloca di spalle rispetto alle raffiche del Cierzo, vento che soffia da nord-est, e si apre verso sud-est dove è stata collocata una piscina immersa in una piantagione di pioppi. La struttura è composta da una serie di cubi monocromi dislocati irregolarmente sul terreno attarverso i quali si possono apprezzare splendidi scorci di paesaggio e giochi di luci e ombre che minimizzano la massività dei blocchi. Attraversando una piantagione di alberi di ciliegio si accede al corpo principale dell‘hotel che ospita le aree comuni – reception, hall, meeting room, bar e ristorante – e dieci camere ciascuna dotata di un patio privato impreziosito da un albero da frutto. Le restanti camere sono padiglioni a se stanti con grandi finestre che si aprono sul selvaggio paesaggio circostante. L‘accesso alle stanze avviene attraverso una passerella esterna che conferisce un carattere più intimo e privilegiato dalla vicinanza dei campi di grano. Il trattamento degli spazi esterni interpreta le forme, i colori e la vegetazione caratteristici del deserto Bardenas: ordinate piantagioni di alberi da frutto, giardini vegetali, cespugli sparsi di piante aromatiche, rosmarino e timo. La linea di demarcazione che segna il limite tra i campi di grano e l‘hotel è in terra rossa amalgamata con massi estratti in zona. Sassi più piccoli e ciottoli sono anche utilizzati per la pavimentazione interna in cemento levigato, capace di creare un effetto simile a quello delle superfici terrose tipiche del deserto Bardenas. Since then they have focused primarily on public works through competitions along with selected private commissions. Their built project for 27 social dwellings for young people in Barcelona received the FAD Architecture Award 2008 while their Hotel Aire de Bardenas has won the Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Award 2008 among others. They currently combine their private practice with teaching. Mónica Rivera received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Master of Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Emiliano López received his degree in Architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Vallès. He completed the Master "History: Art, City and Architecture" from the UPC, Barcelona and a Master of Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He is now writing his doctoral thesis on J. Ll. Sert's Married Students Dormitories in Cambridge, MA.
